Around 30 firefighters and five fire engines responded to a fire on Dorset Road in Oval.
The fire was located in a first floor maisonette, in an 11 storey residential block. Part of the maisonette was damaged by fire. Sadly, one man was declared dead at the scene, after being found in the property by firefighters.
The Brigade was first called about the incident at 0001, and 999 Control officers mobilised crews from Lambeth, Clapham, Peckham and Battersea fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0127.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
