Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a building fire on Cleveland Road in Ilford.
Most a single-storey community centre was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade received the first of 14 calls about the fire at 2000 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Ilford, Barking, Stratford, Leyton, Hainault and Romford fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Dagenham Fire Station also attended and was used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire from above. The fire was brought under control by 2121.
Due to the structural damage sustained to the building as a result of this fire, it has not been possible to carry out a full investigation and the cause has been recorded by the Brigade as unknown at this time.
