Fire at a shop with dwellings above - Brockley

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with dwellings above on Brockley Road in Brockley.

A three roomed flat split between the first and second floors was destroyed by the fire. Firefighters rescued one woman from the second floor using a nine metre ladder. Breathing apparatus crews rescued a second woman from the first floor using an internal staircase. One man left the building before the Brigade arrived. All three people were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

Control Officers took the first of 12 calls at 0805 and mobilised crews from Lewisham, Forest Hill, New Cross and Greenwich fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0903.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
