Spencer joined London Fire Brigade in 1998 and has spent his whole career serving the local community.
Spencer was appointed Deputy Commissioner in August 2025 and was previously Assistant Commissioner for Fire Stations with responsibility for our 102 fire stations since 2022.

Spencer considers the defining period of his career as the two years following the Grenfell Tower Fire when he served as Borough Commander for Kensington & Chelsea. This experience drives him to continually improve our service. Since that period, he has implemented our new approach to high-rise firefighting and shaped our community centred approach at fire stations.
Spencer has worked and lived in central London for over 25 years, currently in Brixton’s station ground. He feels inspired to be part of an incredibly diverse and vibrant area that reflects London’s amazing history and exciting future.
In his spare time, Spencer competes in triathlons, and has done for over 30 years. He loves to represent London Fire Brigade around the UK at these events.
