Sprinklers extinguished a fire in a flat on Southwark Bridge Road in Southwark.

Part of a four-roomed flat on the 25th floor of a 39-storey block was damaged by the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries.

A sprinkler system was fitted throughout the building and it activated and suppressed the fire, preventing it from spreading further.

The Brigade was called at 1805 and the fire was under control by 1850. Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters from Dowgate, Lambeth, Old Kent Road, Dockhead and Whitechapel fire stations were at the scene.
