Firefighters rescued a curious sausage dog after he climbed a tree on his afternoon walk and was unable to get back down.

Linus the dachshund was being walked alongside his canine companion in Wanstead Park. While off the lead, the curious pooch decided to climb a tall tree but then his owner discovered he was unable to make his way back down.

A fire crew from Ilford fire station attended and used a short extension ladder to bring him back down to the ground.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We would always urge people to contact the RSPCA if they see an animal stuck or in distress. If the RSPCA require our assistance, they will call us and we are happy to assist with our specialist equipment."

The Brigade was called at 1550 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1700. One fire engine attended the scene.
