Firefighters rescued two people from a fire at a house converted into flats on Shardeloes Road in Brockley.

Part of the ground floor was damaged by the fire. A woman in the ground floor flat rang 999 and explained that she was trapped by the fire and could not escape. Control Officers gave her fire survival guidance information and reassured her until fire crews arrived.

New Cross Watch Manager Lee Davies, who was at the scene said:

“Firefighters quickly dealt with the fire on the ground floor. Thanks to the information relayed by 999 Control Officers to fire crews we were able to locate the woman and bring her to safety. We also rescued a man from the first floor flat. The were both suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 0504 and the fire was under control by 0545. Firefighters from New Cross, Greenwich and Deptford fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
