Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat in Cephas Street in Stepney Green.
Part of a fourth floor flat was damaged by fire. One man and one woman were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1529 and the fire was under control at 1600. Fire crews from Bethnal Green and Whitechapel fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and due to the incorrect fueling of a paraffin heater.
