Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat in Nevill Road in Stoke Newington.
Part of a second floor flat was damaged by fire. One man was assisted from the property by a member of the public before the arrival of the Brigade. He was treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2157 and the fire was under control at 2333. Fire crews from Stoke Newington, Holloway and Homerton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
