Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters have been called to a fire on Launders Lane in Rainham.
There are multiple pockets of fire situated within a landfill site.
Local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke travel.
A road closure is in place in Launders Lane.
The Brigade was called at 1824 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Wennington and surrounding fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder has also been on scene and is being deployed as a water tower to help extinguish the fire from above.
Crews will remain on scene this evening.
