Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Beaulieu Avenue in Sydenham.

The first and second floors of a mid-terraced house were completely destroyed by fire. Part of the ground floor, half of the roof and a small part of the roofs of the neighbouring properties either side were also damaged by the blaze. Three people left the building before the Brigade arrived. One woman was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

The fire was discovered when the resident noticed smoke coming from the living room and called the Brigade.

The Brigade's 999 Control centre received 22 calls alerting them to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 1315 and was under control by 1503. Fire crews from Forest Hill, Beckenham, West Norwood, Lewisham, Peckham and New Cross fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
