Firefighters are sharing their top tips for electrical safety after a fire involving an extension lead in Battersea.

Part of the first floor and the roof of a house on Albert Bridge Road was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade's fire investigators believe the fire was accidental and involved an extension lead.

Firefighters top tips for electrical device safety:

  • Cable extension leads should always completely unwound to avoid overheating and take care not to overload extension leads
  • Always make sure electrical appliances have a British or European safety mark when you buy them
  • Keep electrical appliances clean and in good working order
  • Don’t buy cheap counterfeit chargers for items that use lithium batteries and never leave phones or laptops plugged in to charge overnight
  • Try to keep to one plug per socket, especially for high powered appliances like washing machines
  • Always check that you are using the right fuse- take a look out our guide to fuses.

The Brigade was called at 0938 and the fire was under control by 1405. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Chelsea, Clapham, Battersea and Fulham fire stations attended the scene.
