Flat fire - Walworth

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Wesley Close in Walworth.

Most of a five roomed flat on the fourth floor of a five-storey block was damaged by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man via an internal staircase. He was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital. Sadly one cat was found dead.

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 14 calls to the blaze. 

The Brigade was called at 1350 and the fire was under control by 1442. Fire crews from Lambeth, Old Kent Road, Dowgate, Peckham, Brixton, Clapham and New Cross fire stations attended the scene. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
