House or flat fire

Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a flat fire in a derelict building on Maitland Park Villas in Belsize Park.

The whole of a two roomed second floor flat was destroyed by fire. Sadly one man was found dead at the property.

The Brigade’s 999 Control centre received 22 calls alerting them to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 1534 and the incident was over by 1711. Fire crews from Kentish Town, Euston and West Hampstead fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
