Fire at basement car park - Lewisham

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a basement car park on Birdwood Avenue in Lewisham.

One car was destroyed by the fire and another car was damaged. Around 70 people left the block of flats above the car park before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 13 calls to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 0857 and the fire was under control by 0939. Fire crews from Lewisham, Lee Green, Forest Hill, Greenwich, Eltham and Deptford fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
