Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in a student accommodation block on Tinworth Street in Lambeth.
Half of a communal kitchen on the seventh floor was damaged by fire. Around 300 people evacuated the block before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 2248 and the fire was under control by 0010. Fire crews from Lambeth, Old Kent Road, Soho and Dowgate fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault in the extractor fan.
