Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire on Launders Lane in Rainham.
An area of wasteland, approximately 1.5 hectares, was alight.
The Brigade was called at 0820 and the fire was under control by 1225. Fire crews from Harold Hill, Dagenham, Hornchurch and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
