Maisonette fire - Islington

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a maisonette on Mingard Walk in Islington. 

Part of a maisonette on the second and third floor of a four-storey block was damaged by the fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man via an internal staircase. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Crews found one woman on the second floor who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The Brigade was called at 1240 and the fire was under control by 1346. Fire crews from Islington, Hornsey, Holloway and Kentish Town fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
