Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a disused landfill site on Launders Lane in Rainham.
An area of wasteland was alight. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1655 and the fire was under control by 2057. Fire crews from Harold Hill, Dagenham, Hornchurch and Barking fire stations were at the scene.
