Firefighters attended a collision between a car and a van on Lavender Hill in Wandsworth.

The car collided with the van and came to a stop underneath it. Both male drivers were assessed on scene for shock by London Ambulance Service crews but were not taken to hospital.

Watch Manager Mark Nunan, who was at the scene, said: “Crews worked hard using specialist equipment to stabilise the vehicle and then used an air lifting unit, which inflates similar to airbags, to raise it.

“They then used a vehicle winch to pull the car clear once the van was raised.

“Due to the precarious position the van was in, it was necessary for us to stabilise it so it didn't topple over fully. This enabled the council to remove the vehicles safely.

“These are both newer pieces of kit carried on our fire rescue units so it was good to see them in an action.”

The Brigade was called at 1031 and the incident was over for firefighters at 1135. Two fire engines and a fire rescue unit from Clapham and Chelsea fire stations attended.
