Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a grass fire on Launders Lane in Rainham.
Around three hectares of grassland on a former waste disposal site was damaged by fire.
The Brigade was called at 1508 and the fire was under control by 2130. Fire crews from Wennington, Dagenham, Hornchurch, Barking, Stratford, East Ham and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
