A man was rescued by firefighters from a fire at a shop on Green Lanes in Hackney.

Part of a basement of the three storey mid-terraced shop was damaged by fire. Part of the fascia was also damaged by fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from the second floor via an internal staircase.  Another man and woman left the property before the arrival of the Brigade.  All three people were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital.

The Brigade was called at 0510 and the fire was under control by 0640.  Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Stoke Newington, Stratford, Islington, Euston, Holloway and Shoreditch fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
