Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat in Mapesbury Road in Kilburn.
A flat on the third floor was damaged by fire. Firefighters rescued one man from the flat but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The Brigade was called at 1354 and the fire was under control at 1530. Fire crews from West Hampstead, Willesden, North Kensington and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
