Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Master Gunner Place in Woolwich Common.
A flat on the ground floor was destroyed by the fire and part of the communal hallway and kitchen were also damaged. Around 60 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0115 and the fire was under control by 0209. Fire crews from East Greenwich, Eltham and Plumstead fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
