Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a take-away with flats above on Barking Road, East Ham.
The extraction system of a ground floor take-away was destroyed by fire.
The Brigade was called at 1302 and the fire was under control at 1429. Fire crews from Barking, Stratford, Poplar, and Ilford fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
