Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a take-away with flats above on Brixton Hill, SW2.
Most of the ground floor was damaged by fire. The restaurant's extractor system running from the ground to third floors was destroyed by the blaze.
Ten people left the flats above the shop before the arrival of the Brigade. There were no reports of any injuries.
Crews were called at 0739 and the fire was under control at 0904. Fire crews from Brixton, Clapham, and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
