Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended a fire at a waste incinerator plant in Creek Way in Rainham.
A small area of the plant was damaged by the fire.
The brigade were called at 1259 and the fire was under control by 1643. Fire crews from Harold Hill, Dagenham, Barking and East Ham attended the scene.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
