Firefighters have issued a reminder about regularly cleaning the extraction systems following a fire at a takeaway on Peckham Park Road.

The extraction system was completely destroyed by the blaze. Some timbers and electrical cables were also damaged.

The fire is believed to have started due to the ignition of fat and grease deposits in the restaurant’s extraction system.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson added: “Restaurant and takeaway owners should always take care to make sure their extraction systems are kept clean as a build up of fat and grease within the filters can lead to a fire.”

The Brigade was called at 1320 and the fire was under control by 1433. Fire crews from Peckham, Old Kent Road, New Cross, Dockhead, Deptford and Brixton fire stations attended the incident.
