Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire in a bin store at a block of flats in Saxton Road, Bethnal Green.
The ground floor bin store was destroyed by fire. Residents left the building before the Brigade arrived and there were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1740 and the fire was under control by 1843. Fire crews from Homerton, Poplar, Whitechapel, Stratford, Millwall and Shoreditch Fire Stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
