Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a refuse site on Cringle Street in Paddington.
Part a 250 tonne pile of household waste was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0450 and the fire was under control by 0746. Fire crews from Lambeth, Clapham, Battersea, Chelsea and Brixton fire station attended the incident.
The fire is believed to be accidental but the exact cause could not be determined.
