Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to shrubland alight on Rainham Road in Rainham.
Two hectares of shrubland and trees were damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1948 and the fire was under control by 2139. Fire crews from Harold Hill, Dagenham and Hornchurch fire stations attended the scene.
