Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire in Beaconsfield Road, Croydon.

A number of garden sheds and some fencing were destroyed by fire.

One propane gas cylinder was involved. Crews removed it and cooled it to an ambient temperature because cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. Around 20 nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.

The Brigade was called at 1051 and the fire was under control by 1256. Fire crews from Woodside, Norbury, West Norwood and Croydon Fire Stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
