Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a lorry alight on Onslow Gardens in South Woodford.

A drain cleaning lorry and two cars were destroyed by the fire and a further three vehicles were damaged, as well as guttering and the first floor windows of a nearby property. There were no reports of any injuries.

Watch Manager David Carnegie, who was at the scene, said: “This fire generated thick black smoke, which could be seen from some distance away.

“When firefighters arrived they were faced with a large fire involving several vehicles on a residential street.

“Crews worked hard to quickly bring the fire under control.”

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 26 calls to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 1729 and the fire was under control at 1812. Fire crews from Woodford, Ilford and Walthamstow fire stations attended.
