Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Lawn Lane in Vauxhall Park.
Part of the flat on the eighth floor of the block of flats was destroyed by fire. One man left the property before the Brigade arrived.
At the height of the incident the Brigade’s 999 Control room received 21 calls about the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1815 and the incident was under control by 1920. Fire crews from Lambeth, Clapham, Peckham, Soho and Chelsea fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
