Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a newsagents on Freemasons Road in Canning Town.
More than half of a store room on the ground floor was damaged by the fire. Two people left the shop before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 1102 and the fire was under control at 1221. Fire crews from Poplar, East Ham, Millwall and Barking fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
