A stray firework destroyed a garden outhouse on Syon Lane in Isleworth last night.

Around ten metres of garden fencing was also damaged in the fire. Fortunately there are no reported injuries.

It's believed the cause of the fire is due to a stray firework landing on the outhouse.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "“It is far safer to go to organised displays rather than lighting fireworks yourself. If you do choose to host your own display, it is vital to follow the Firework Safety Code.”

The Brigade's top firework safety tips

  • Only buy fireworks which carry the CE mark, keep them in a closed box and use them one at a time
  • Read and follow the instructions on each firework using a torch if necessary
  • Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks
  • Don't put fireworks in pockets and never throw them
  • Don’t build a bonfire but at the very least, make sure that the fire is properly out before leaving
  • Always keep a bucket of water or a hosepipe nearby

The Brigade was called at 2222 and the incident was under control by 2334. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Heston, Chiswick and Southall fire stations were at the scene.
