Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Rushen Walk in Carshalton.
Half of the ground floor of the terraced house was damaged by the fire. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus brought out a man from the ground floor. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The Brigade was called at 1104 and the fire was under control by 1224. Fire crews from Mitcham, Sutton, Wallington and Wimbledon fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
