Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a recycling plant on an industrial estate in River Road, Barking.
Approximately 200 tonnes of mixed refuse was alight.
The Brigade was called at 1259 and the fire was under control at 2002. Fire crews from Homerton, East Ham, Dagenham, Plaistow and Ilford fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
