Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a fish and chip shop in Rainham Road South, Dagenham.
A small part of the ground floor and part of the ducting system were damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1143 and the fire was under control at 1230. Fire crews from Dagenham, Poplar and Horn church fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
