Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a flat in Ferndale Road, Leytonstone.
Part of a five-roomed flat on the ground floor was damaged by fire. One man left the property before the Brigade arrived and there were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1200 and the fire was under control at 1301. Fire crews from Leytonstone, Leyton, Plaistow and Woodford fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service.
