Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire in an office block of four floors on Bath Place in Hackney last night.

Shoreditch Fire Station Watch Manager Richard Reid said: “ There was heavy smoke logging from the ground to the first floor when we arrived. The fire was located in a first floor meeting room with a kitchenette.

Two members of staff discovered the fire and left the building before we arrived. The cause of the fire is believed to be a faulty dishwasher.”

The fire was contained to the meeting room and firefighters prevented it from spreading further.

The Brigade was called at 2042 and the fire was under control by 2147. Fire crews from Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Islington and Bethnal Green fire stations were at the scene.
