Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop with flats above on Blackstock Road in Hackney.
Part of the kitchen of the ground floor was damaged by the fire as well as the ducting from the ground to the first floor. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1246 and the fire was under control at 1359. Fire crews from Holloway, Stoke Newington, Islington and Kentish Town fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
