Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a glass manufacturing warehouse on an industrial estate in Lanrick Road, Canning Town.

Half of a glass hardening plant unit on the ground floor of the building was damaged by the fire and part of a mezzanine floor and the roof were also damaged. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 11 calls to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 1229 and the fire was under control at 1352. Fire crews from Plaistow, Millwall, Shadwell, East Greenwich, Stratford and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been caused when combustible material on the side of a large fan unit was ignited by welding.
