Flat fire - Whitechapel

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a block of flats in Underwood Road, Whitechapel.

Balconies on the second and third floors were destroyed by the fire and half of a second floor flat was also damaged.

There were no reports of any injuries. Around 30 people left the building before the Brigade arrived.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 15 calls to the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 1005 and the fire was under control at 1108. Fire crews from Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Shadwell and Dowgate fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
