Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a car workshop in a railway arch in Druid Street in Bermondsey.

Half of the car workshop was damaged by fire. An adjacent railway arch used as a vehicle storage unit sustained minor fire damaged. Three vehicles were also damaged by fire.

The Brigade was called at 2312 and the fire was under control at 0045 on Saturday (April 14). Fire crews from Dockhead, Old Kent Road, Whitechapel, Dowgate, Shadwell and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is accidental and believed to be caused by a lightbulb coming into contact with flammable materials.
