Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a sheltered accommodation block of flats in Kennington Road in Kennington this morning.
Part of a flat on the ground floor of the building was damaged by fire.
Approximately 50 people were evacuated from the building as a precaution.
The Brigade was called at 0634 and the fire was under control at 0820. Fire crews from Dowgate, Old Kent Road and Soho fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
