Firefighters are reminding residents about the importance of keeping internal doors closed after a fire at a ground floor flat in Glendale Avenue, Wood Green.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to the fire, which was in a converted semi-detached house.

The fire is belived to have started in a bedroom and spread to the flat’s hallway. Half of the flat was damaged and it was left uninhabitable.

Fire and smoke spread as a result of all internal doors in the flat being left open. The first floor flat also suffered minor smoke damage.

A woman and three children left the property and the woman was treated on the scene for minor burns by London Ambulance Service crews.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“It’s always a good idea to shut internal doors, as in the event of a fire this can help protect property from further damage.”

The Brigade was called at 1326 and the fire was under control at 1438. Fire crews from Southgate, Edmonton, Holloway and Hendon fire stations attended.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and is under investigation.
