Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from a flat fire on Bexley Road in Erith on Friday evening.

The fire damaged half of a four roomed flat on the ground floor and the man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The Brigade was called at 1941 and the fire was under control by 2041. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers attended the incident from Erith, Bexley and Plumstead fire stations along with a fire engine from Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
