City - fire in restaurant under refurbishment

A sprinkler system activated and suppressed a fire in an office block, retail units and restaurant under refurbishment in New Street Square in The City.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to the fire.

The sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire before the arrival of the Brigade. A small part of a kitchen on the ground floor was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 1752 and the incident was over at 1853. Fire crews from Dowgate, Soho and Euston fire stations attended.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
