Islington - fire at a building site

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a building site in Balfe Street in Islington.

Part of a south facing wall at the building site was damaged by fire. After the fire was extinguished one person evacuated from the cab of a 28 metre crane.

The Brigade’s 999 control officers took more than 20 calls to reports of the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 1206 and the fire was under control at 1252. Fire crews from Islington, Kentish Town, Holloway, Paddington and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
